The story

Warp was started in 2020 by Zach Lloyd, a former Google Docs/Sheets principal engineer, as a Rust-based reinvention of the command-line terminal. It added AI chat, then AI agent features, raising $73-75M from Sequoia Capital, GV, Dylan Field and others. It has since expanded from an individual-developer terminal into an enterprise platform for automating software development lifecycle tasks with fleets of AI agents ('Factories'), and open-sourced its core terminal and orchestration engine in 2026 with OpenAI's backing.
