The story
Figma was founded in 2012 by Brown University classmates Dylan Field and Evan Wallace and grew into the dominant browser-based interface design tool, famously surviving a $20 billion Adobe acquisition attempt that was abandoned in 2023 over antitrust concerns. The company went public on the NYSE in July 2025 and has since expanded from a design tool into a wider AI-assisted product suite (Figma Make, Sites, Buzz, Draw, Weave).
